Here’s exactly what travels with you, and what needs a connection.
Ready when your phone is offline
The national vector map, local place search, walking/cycling/driving routing graph, metro timetables and twelve Kapi stories install with the app. Searching, planning routes, reading stories and using your journal do not require an application network connection.
A little preparation, once
Keep several GB of storage free. On first launch, the app prepares its bundled files on your phone and tells you which dataset is being unpacked. Keep that screen open. An interrupted preparation resumes from completed files. You do not need a first-run map download.
Places and names
National OpenStreetMap search and official SEMAS business directories for Seoul and Busan are included. Other prepared regional directories can be imported from Files. Records are open data: a building coordinate is not a verified entrance, and not every place has an English name.
Getting from here to there
Native route calculations support walking, cycling and driving. GPS guidance needs location permission and a usable location fix; voice guidance uses installed system voices. Recalculation stays on the phone. The app does not supply real-time traffic, closures or verified entrance information.
Below the city
Metro planning uses static official timetables for Seoul lines 1–9 and Busan lines 1–4, with a chosen service-day type and departure time. Some transfer durations are labelled estimates. Check station information for holidays and disruptions. Buses, KTX, AREX and other rail networks are not covered.
When you reconnect
Map updates and links to source or business websites require internet. OpenStreetMap contributors, Geofabrik, SEMAS, Seoul Metro / Seoul Metropolitan Government and Busan Transportation Corporation supply the open data used by the app. Coverage and freshness vary.
