One small stroke of bamboo

For Gangneung, I would start with a small dark stroke of pencil. Ojukheon's name comes from the black bamboo around the house. It is the birthplace of the artist Shin Saimdang and her son Yi I, the scholar also known as Yulgok. A home and its surroundings give those familiar historical names a more everyday scale.

When you are comfortably stopped, choose a detail smaller than a building: a leaf, the edge of a beam, a patch of shade. You do not need to be an artist to give something your attention. My paws are better at holding a folded map than making perfect drawings.

I would leave that imperfect pencil mark on the page. Looking carefully is already a way of making a memory.
